It's the Lunar New Year again!
Shean Wenn knows more about the Chinese New Year this year, but only the things I told her, which are :
1. She must behave well during CNY
2. She must greet everyone (at least the chinese people/friends) with "Gong Yee Wat Tsai" - Hainan for Gong Hey Fatt Choy/Gong Xi Fa Cai.
3. She gets an ang pow from her mom, and one from her dad. (She has been bugging me this evening to give her "THREE hong bao, mummy??" - doesn't work that day, Shean Wenn).
4. We go to the temple on 1st day of CNY.
5. We bake some peanut cookies for CNY - she has been telling her teachers about the "Chinese Cookies" she helped mummy made. Funny! I told her it's Chinese New Year cookies.. and it's peanut cookies.. but she intepreted it as that.
Meng has also bought a CNY CD by the Malaysian girl-group "M-Girls" for her to watch. Actually she has been watching them on youtube previously (last year) and since she loves their songs so much, Meng bought the CD for her. Whenever we put it on, she will try to follow the dance steps to her favourite songs in the album - she has a few fav. And the video below is her MOST favourite from the CD : A song called "龙头大队贺新年".
So here's wishing everyone, especially my family (The Lim family & the Wong family) a prosperous, healthy and safe New Year of the Golden Rabbit!
(You can watch the original video of the M-Girl's track here)

Feels like yesterday
.. that I just landed back in humid KL. The past 3 weeks were truly hectic - Shean Wenn and I met up with the hubs in KLIA to travel back to Melbourne for CNY with the IL's, then back to KL for a brief 6-day trip before heading back to cold cold London (it's mid-winter now).
CNY IN MELBOURNE
Shean Wenn with dad
Upon touching down, I was down with the cold - full-blown with watery eyes, stucked and watery nose, sore-throat, the works. Took me a week to recover, that's 7 days of not quite enjoying Melbourne. Couldn't taste most of the food while I was there, which was a waste. Plus, while I was sick, the weather was so good - sun-shiney, warm and crisp. Perfect for our zoo-outing, swimming.. But when I have recovered, the weather turned cold and rainy, making all that impossible.
Well, at least we went for a swim once.
The in-laws : Grandma and grandpa Wong were thrilled to see Shean Wenn again. Afterall, the last time they saw her, she was merely 2 months old and can only manage a smile or two, and was learning to laugh.
And when we reached home form the airport, grandma brought out all the toys for the little girl. Her eyes lit up when grandma showed her the Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Grand Piano. Sometimes when we put her infront of her piano, she will move her body from side-to-side (kinda like "dancing"), moving to the music! Very cute. She has now learned to appreciate music more. But after a few days, she would sometimes bang on the keyboard and when she is bored doing that, she would use the Grand Piano to pull herself up to stand. (She has learnt to stand for a couple of weeks now and is practicing really hard on this new skill)
She was also introduced to a Fisher Price monkey, but somehow her enthusiasm towards the monkey lasted only for a couple of days. She kept toppling the monkey over instead of crawling towards/with it!

It was CNY, a first for Shean Wenn, and most of the family was around to celebrate, minus SIL Daphne who is in Thailand (in the midst of her second pregnancy). MIL cooked up a storm for reunion dinner, yumms!
HAIRY ISSUES
There's an old chinese tradition that says one should cut one's hair before the new year. As Shean Wenn has bald patches around her back which would not grow back, we thought it would be good to give her a "trim" to help stimulate hair growth. MIL was bestowed with this important task - out came the scissors and hey presto!
AFTER : Ok, amidst the excitement (as you can see clearly from MIL's expression in the "BEFORE" photo), I forgot to take an "AFTER photo.
After a few days, I decided that to really stimulate hair growth, it's best to cut her hair BALD (well, almost). Mei, hub's regular hairdresser in Melbourne gave Shean Wenn a Number 1. She now looks like this :

1st weekend in London
SAT :
Met up with the SIL, Alicia for yumcha on Saturday. For reasons i still do not comprehend, these Aussies (hubs included in this case) like to call their dim sums "yumcha". To us M'sians, as the phrase suggests, "yumcha" should only mean "Drink Tea/beverages", and it should not matter if it's teatime, brunch, breakfast, or supper. :P Anyway on Sat, we popped over to our favourite nearbyrestaurant. Dim Sum was good, we wanted to order the suckling pig but today, they ran out of it.
The SIL brought a little gift for the baby - a Baby Journal. Very sweet! Now.. if only I can bring myself to scribble on its pristine pages.
My Baby's Journal
The rest of the day was spent around this area... and even a visit to the local chinese grocery place where we stocked up on essentials.
SUN :
A busy day. We started the day early as we wanted to go to the Baby Show at ExCeL London before lunchtime. Had our brunch and was out by 11am. We quickly found a parking after paying £6 for 2 hours of parking and made our way in.
A truly good show with floors covering 2 football fields? The place was huge but luckily isn't packed to the brim, which makes browsing, product testing and walking more enjoyable. We first walked around the place looking at products we are interested and comparing prices. After deciding the model we want, we proceeded to buy them. Here, we managed to get all the baby essentials :
1. Maclaren Techno XLR Travel System - Stroller, car seat, foot muffs, rain cover.
2. Avent Breastfeeding solutions.
3. Tommy Tippee nappy wrapper - The sales pitch : "At the end of it, u just twist this thing, lift it up and throw this sausage looking thingy away!". Haha, nappy wrapped sausages, indeed!
4. Bath tub
5. Nursing pillow
Of course, there are samples galore. During halftime, we went out to grab something to eat & drink and made our way back in.
I'm now recuperating from the 2 days adventure. :P Can't wait for next weekend.

View from the top...
This is the view from where i sit. A pretty big mountain right infront of me. Haha!
Last weekend was productive - It was Spring Cleaning weekend. To de-clutter for receiving the coming Chinese New Year! I re-arranged and threw out (donated) 1 bag-full of clothes to make way for the clothes i somehow "acquired" these few months. As it is, the cupboards are bursting to its seams with clothes. Also, I managed to do the much-needed filing which I've been procrastinating for the past year. Now the table is freer from bits of salary slips, papers lying around.
CNY is just around the corner and I do LOVE this festive season. (Of course i loved it more when I didn't have to give out ang-pows. Damages are quite severe!) I like CNY because it's one of the rare time that all my close relatives will get to congregate together from overseas and catch up on each other's lives. And yesterday while reading the papers, I came across this article abt this centenarian who misses firecracker, it reminded me of the days when firecrackers weren't banned. I do miss slightly the "noise" and hustle and bustle of how CNY used to be - firecrackers going off everynight for about 2 weeks.. But am also glad that now, I get peaceful sleep most of CNY. However, I don't quite like the hot weather that comes with CNY though- scorching.
This will be my last week of work. After which I'd be a free-bird again. It's bittersweet for me. I love working but I do not mind a long break as well. And of course carrying a baby AND working at the same time can put a toll on someone. I salute those who works till the day they deliver.. I don't know how they do it.
Went for my week 21 scan on Sat and little baby chose to cover her face with her hands! But i did get a peek into her nose and mouth.. it's still too early to see her face though. My obstetrician says Week 26 and above will be ideal. Well, I'll just hv to wait for the 24 weeks 3D and 4D scan!
:)
Can't wait to usher in the Golden Year of the Pig!
