First Haircut

3 comment(s)
Date : 22 Nov 2009 (almost 29 Months Old)

Her first haircut-proper from a hairdresser (not including the first time when she shaved her head).

She was really well-behaved throughout the experience. She didn't cry but she just couldn't sit still. Despite telling her "Don't move", "Freeze", she still kept turning around as she likes or whenever she is distracted. I resorted to holding her neck/chin to ensure that Elaine the hairdresser can finish her job faster. Elaine says to give her a "bob cut". This is the same haircut as her 2 other friends, Joyee & Kaye (sisters). But as SW has slight curls at the ends of her hair, it looked different to her friends' style.

During the haircut. What a big girl sitting on the chair.

After : Could not get a clearer photo as she is a GROOVY baby and does not stand still even for a snap.

A pretty good £8 spent, I'd say. And all in preparation for our trips back to Msia & Aus.

SW @ 26MO : Milestones

3 comment(s)
28 August 2009

Actually alot of these milestones were achieved few months ago but I did not have the time to record it on the blog. The video below is to show her latest developments since we (Meng & I) don't really take alot of videos of her, this will serve to remind us of her milestones from 20-26 Months Old.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
Height : 85cm (as of 25 Months Old) which is at the 25th percentile.

OTHER MILESTONES
Shape recognition : She can recognise the basic shapes such as triangle, circle & rectangle. As for square, she will usually say it is a rectangle but we are currently working on this.

Colours : She knew her colours way before she turned two. Now her colour recognition not only includes primary & secondary colours, ie orange, purple, green, she also knows pink, black & white. (Colour experts out there, what do these colours fall under?)

Alphabets : She can visually link the alphabets with what the alphabet is for, for example if you show her letter "H", she can tell you it is for HOUSE. Sometimes she will point to a letter on the keyboard & tell me what it is for, how very cute!

So far, I have managed to teach her "The letter A is for Apple...." from A to F. Also, she only knows the letters in capital. She hasn't recognised, or should I say, has not been exposed to the small-caps yet.

Minding her manners : In some parts of the video, you may hear her saying "Yes, please." Or "Yes, mummy", etc. This is because before this, sometimes when I ask her a question, she just kept quiet and I do not know if she understood me, and if she wanted what I asked her. So I sat down with her and told her if she wants something that I ask her about, she should reply me with "Yes mummy" or "No mummy" and if she wanted something, she must ask witha a "please". And voila, the next day, she started saying her please and her replies. :)

Enjoy the video! HAPPY LONG WEEKEND! To both Malaysia & the UK. And to my brother, Happy Birthday to you, I'm truly blessed to have you as my only & most beloved brother. :)

Ready for school?

8 comment(s)
Shean Wenn puts on her hat, TWO bags, a "glove" (socks on hand) and struts over telling me excitedly (I was on the laptop, as always), "MUMMY, go to kool!" (go to school).

I guess (and hope) I don't have to worry about her going to school. She should settle pretty well? On another note, I can't believe it's been 2 years!

2YO Doodling

5 comment(s)
Her drawing/ doodling makes my heart leaps up! It's as though I've seen a rainbow.

Bright colours, bold strokes. She's an artist, alright!

As i look closely at this drawing, I see SW drew a face on the right, with eyes, nose, mouth and mickey mouse ears? (It's in red on the right side). I wonder what she is thinking when she does her art?

If you look carefully, you may have noticed both pares are crumpled. This is because my dear daughter will try to "fold" (crumple, more like it) the papers after drawing, she claims she is making a HAT!

SW draws a face

9 comment(s)
About a month ago, I accidentally stumbled upon SW's new skills. She can draw a face! Complete with 2 eyes, a nose & a mouth - all at the right places. At the same time, on her own initiative, drew a pair of ears at both sides of the head! What I did was, I drew an oval/round-shaped "head", and she proceeded to draw the other features. Then, after drawing the eyes, nose, mouth & ears, she told me she wants to draw legs, and the legs started just below the chin!

Oh, of course to me that was the most beautiful painting/portrait. A MASTERPIECE!

Today I woke up to her drawing on her Aquadraw Mat and I video-taped her drawing another face.

Shean Wenn doing another masterpiece.

(Note her "bangles"! Oh she's a fashionista alright!)

"Dor Dor!"

5 comment(s)

"Dor Dor!", she shouts while pointing to her crayons. It's her signalling she wants to "Draw Draw". This is one of her favourite activities now. After her breakfast in the mornings, she wants to draw.

I bought the brand new un-used crayons for 50p at one of the fairs held at Children's Garden - best 50p I ever spent!

In the afternoons when she has tire of her books or playing with her other toys, she wants her crayons. I give her 3 crayons at a time.. she scribbles and then shouts for me to get new colours. I bring over the box of crayons, she puts the old colours in and picks new ones. The cycle goes on for possibly 8 or 10 times before she gets bored. She can immerse herself in her drawings for a good 30 minutes.

Her drawings : I always tell her that she is doing a great job, and truthfully when I look closely at her drawings, I see circles and lines and I'm seriously impressed. I read in Babycenter that some Toddlers at 20MO can do this but if they can't there is nothing to worry about anyway. I'm just impressed at her work of art anyway because I can see her growth and improvement everyday and she never ceases to amaze me. That's my little girl! Love you to bits. :)

BTW, today is also Square Root Day! According to Lilian of Wrong Side of 30, "Math nerds around the world are celebrating Square Root Day today, 3/3/09, ie 9 is the square root of 3. The last Square Root Day was 5 years ago on 2/2/04 and the next will be 7 years later on 4/4/16. Happy Square Root Day!"

Now, surely that is something you didn't know? :)

19 Months Old : A rebel?

1 comment(s)
At 19 months-old and my BABY DAUGHTER (she is and always will be our baby!) has already turned into a teenager! Grrr.... *exhausted*

She fusses, she screams for attention, sometimes she brushes you off.

During lunch today
I feed her a spoonful of rice saying "
Sek fan la." (Eat rice la) - my attempt at establishing "chinese vocab" in my young daughter.

She says "
Rice!" - so much for my attempts!

After a few bites, she demands "Chic-chen!" (translate : chicken). I obliged. She eats happily... then.. "SOUP!". LOL! Well, at least she likes her soups - that is a very good chinese habit. :D

Near dinner-time
Me busy in the kitchen. She comes and screams at the kitchen entrance, walks into the kitchen
(we have trained her not to do so, she is clearly testing her boundaries, this lady!), reverses out when I scream "OUT Shean! No coming into the kitchen".

She puts both her hands up in the air, frustrated that I am not giving her any attention. Punches the air/rolls on the floor/throwing her toys around in fits of tantrum. I stop what I am doing when she throws her toys, goes out and tells her firmly "
No throwing your toys. Pick it up NOW". She relents after a few scolding. I make her say sorry. She mumbles "Bor-wee" (sorry?).

These days, she also puts out both her hands and says "
Pou pou!" (a little accented, may I add.. meaning "Carry me" in cantonese), everytime I am busy.

The
terrible twos has started, hasn't it?

BEDTIME : Daddy putting her to bed
Dad kisses her good night and covers her with a blanket. He looks lovingly at his perfect-in-everyway daughter... and she says "GO!" and pointing him to the door!

Meng comes running to me, complaining of her rushing him out now. Heh!

(Shean Wenn's "GO!" ala "You're fired", Apprentice-style)

On another more visual note, here are some photos of us swimming after New Year's

Photos above : You can clearly see Shean Wenn in her "swimming chair" while Karmen is using her swimming tube which I MUST add, is such a great product for babies this age. It is essentially like a swimming ring, but designed so well that it has a clasp to open and close so you can put your baby's head in it easily, strap her on and she's on her way to great paddling motion!

On a side note, if you notice in the background of the photos, we are facing the O2 Arena (Millenium Dome for those who didn't keep up to date after leaving England in 2000 :P)

Photos below : Look how happy Shean Wenn is, using it! She was practically focussing ONLY on her kicks! See the bubbles splashing around us??? She was just kicking and kicking, stopping only to check her toes ;)

My friend Michelle is selling it (Suitable from birth to up to 18kg). Do drop me an e-mail at tsulinplusplus[at]gmail.com to enquire.

18 Months Old : What is SW doing now?

4 comment(s)
She turned 18 months old on 24th Dec 2008, Christmas Eve.

Stats :
WEIGHT - around 11kg
HEIGHT - 68cm

Speech & understanding
As with most 18MOs, she can understand alot of basic daily speech and can/will reply you with a verbal answer, or with an action, or both!

Book & Reading : She loves them to bits and can indulge in reading for a long time, many times a day. Typical scenario of a day with SW - Mummy resting on the couch, SW toddles along, slams a book on my tummy/chest/nose declaring "BOOK!", me looking at her in alarm and she telling me "Up!" (to indicate she wants to climb up on me so that I can read to her) while climbing up and sitting on my tummy. This kid is getting heavy, everytime she sits her bum on me, I can feel my inerts being crushed. Ouch!

Daddy has also been teaching her a few funky stuff, ie the numbers (1, 2 & 3 only, let's not confuse her too much) and she also knows the "musical note" saying "MUSIC!". One rubbish that he taught her was where is her bum-bum and she will respond by turning around and patting her bum with her hands!

Here is a video of Shean Wenn reading with daddy.

Especially at this age, repetition is crucial for them because it is how they will absorb information - repeating what she learns from yesterday, an hour ago or 2 days ago. She reinforces her learning by also chanting the new words every now and then. What I do is to repeat after her, sometimes to correct her, but never with too many confusing words (ie, I don't string long sentences, I say something to the point so she catches the main part of what is important, for example instead of saying "This is a blue fish swimming in the big ocean", I say "FISH swim swim in the sea".)

MOTOR SKILLS

Eating
:
Getting there, she can feed herself better although still with alot of mess and her spoon usually turns downwards upon reaching her mouth. Very annoying to watch, but I leave it to her most of the time because I want her to learn it at her own pace. She will point to her spoon, or even fork and say "Poon" (spoon). I will correct her everytime she says the fork as spoon..

Pulling/Pushing :
From around 16MO till now, she likes toys that can be pulled or pushed. Pulling toys include the wooden caterpillar my parents gave her for her 1st b'day, it is very noisy and can drive us up the walls... but I think she likes that it makes the clanking noise whenever she takes it for a walk. Pushing toys such as a mini-stroller also gives her a great amount of pleasure. Since we do not have one at home at the moment (she plays with her friends' mini-stollers at the mo), she makes do by pushing her kitchen set around the hall. It really reminds me of those "mamak stalls" or the aunties in the "pasar malam" (night market) pushing their carts around hawking their food. Meng teased her if she is selling "hokkien noodle" at the corner (corner of our couch, that is)!

I push you.... you push me! Child's play.

Role-Play :
She is learning alot about growing up by role-playing. Sometimes, I catch her forcing her Pooh Bear to drink water, and sometimes I see her using her toy spoon to feed pieces of blocks to Mr Pooh Bear! She is also a caring little girl, when she will bring Mr Pooh Bear to the couch and putting a blanket over him. Other role-playing activities she likes : "talking on the phone" (she will make do with anything as a phone, a piece of wooden block, a door stopper, my handphone, the pen-drive?), cooking up a storm in her "kitchen", holding a bag (like how I would hold mine) etc.

(Playing with her kitchen set)

"Mom, let me help you with your bag!"

SIGNS OF BEING INDEPENDENT
She goes to the shoe cabinet and brings out her shoes and tries to wear them as she sees her dad doing it, one hand holding on to something and her legs putting into the shoes, she usually gets it right. Sometimes she sits down on a box and put them on (like how mummy does it). She tries to wear her own clothes, and sometimes she pulls off a shirt off the hanging laundry and tries to put it on herself (daddy's t-shirt, a few times she tried to wear daddy's pants).

INTERESTINGNESS
I noticed it since she was 7 months-old), she likes to be very engrossed and focussed on doing something, such as clasping the clasp of a baby-chair/high-chair/stroller/shopping trolley. At around 11MO, she succeeded first time putting in the clasp of her baby rocker chair. I was very impressed... until now, she still likes doing it, focussing on doing up and sometimes (very rare) undoing the clasps. She also likes to lie down on the floor looking up to her musical-rocker (like how a mechanic checks the car chassis) and there are two little hinges there which is supposed to be clipped onto the back of the piano, but she will lie there, focussing on unclipping the hinges and then putting them back on again and unclipping it... she can do this for a long time. This really reminds me of my brother when we were young, how intently focussed he is on exploring and trying to figure out how things work. I hope this is an indication that my inquisitive little girl is a "thinker" ("how do I solve this?"). Maybe I can train her to solve the rubik's cube later on.. KEKEKE..

Conversations with my 15 MO

5 comment(s)
Differentiating between HOT and COLD

1. Dinner is served for her and as I scoop a spoonful to put into her mouth, she spits it out

SW : HOK HOK (Hot hot, it means)!!
Me : No, it's not hot, it's warm, can be eaten.
SW : *shakes head* *pushes my hands away* HOK HOK *shows me her tongue* HOK HOK!
Me : *Hmmph!* (wanna spank her!)

2. SW playing by the heater/radiator (which we have switched on for autumn- Low heat)

SW : Ooh! HOK HOK!!! *retracting her fingers from the heater and her mouth making a big "O"-shape*
Me : See, don't touch. (Serves you right :P)

3. Weekday romping at the mall - somewhere in Canary Wharf. I saw Zaza, a newly opened gelato shop. Asks for a single scoop Hazelnut in cup (comes with a baby-cone).

Me : SW, you want ice-cream??? (Scoops and put into her mouth)
SW : *takes a tiny taste of it and turned her head away* HOK HOK!!!
Me : -_-" Not HOT, COLD COLD!
Me : You want somemore?
SW : *Nods* *Opens her mouth - takes a little* HOK HOK!
Me : COLD COLD! Ok, you eat this cone then! *Yayy.. i eat all*

ANIMAL SOUNDS

(SW sees her favourite song on Cbeebies. Claps and dances happily until song finishes)

Me : What does the Tiger do?
SW : *makes roarring sound* GRRRR!
Me : What does the Monkey do?
SW : HAIK!! (Huh?)
Me : Monkey do what?
SW : HAIK! (thinks sumo wrestler? Oh, i see she cannot pronounce Hoohoohahaha)

Here is an UNEDITED video taped using my handphone (very low resolution) but you can hear her saying WA-BEET (Rabbit) with some hand-gestures, and also doing some other animal sounds.

SHOWING PAIN

I heard a loud knock - she has fallen down and knocked herself. Shean Wenn cries.. and composes herself before coming to find me. I hurried out from the kitchen. She brings me to the scene of accident and pats her hand on the floor, showing me where she has fallen down. I said "Oh no, is this where you fell?" She nods, and then uses her hand to "hit" the floor - something I taught her in order to distract her from the pain. She has been doing this quite alot - whenever she falls down, or hit herself while playing. And yes, she still falls down and hits herself quite often, unfortunately!

Speech development

SW bring her favourite book to me (ok, she has alot of fav books!) - this is the one daddy bought for her form Dubai, with buttons at the side that when you press it, it will read out an object.

SW flips to one page, points to the Car.
SW : CAR!
Me : *huh?? Impressed*
SW points to flower
SW : Fwawa!
Me : Yes, you are right.
SW points to ball.
SW : BOR BOR.
Me : Yes, correct.
SW points to boat. Presses the button and it reads BOAT.

SW : Bowp.
Me : *wow!*
Me : SW is a SMART GIRL! *Kiss* (And i meant it!)

At 15 Months Old

2 comment(s)
Little Shean Wenn is not so "little" anymore, sometimes when I look at her, she seems like an independent little person doing something so "grown up" and my heart will fill with pride and a little smile appears on my lips.

Statistics
Height : 77cm
Weight : 9.5kg

Speech Development/ Vocab : Bird, Flower, Bread ("Beed"), Fish, Owl. "Mum mumm" to indicate that she wants to eat. She understands "bathing" & "drink water" (in cantonese & Hainanese). She babbles ALOT and it usually sounds like a tongue-twister.

Walking : This is one area that we are a little concerned. I have noticed since last month that she still walks with a little "bow-legged"-ly. Bear in mind she has been walking since 11.5 months old, so it has been 3 months since she has been walking. Bow leg is a condition where her legs seems a little "crooked"/"bent" when she is walking (kinda like Incredible Hulk way of walking). According to websites, my friend Michelle and the Health Visitor (HV), bowleggedness can be a genetically inherited trait but VERY rarely is caused by Vitamin D deficiency. They also said it will usually correct itself after they turn 2 or so. Anyway, I brought her to be consulted by the GP as well (yes, I like seeking 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinions). The GP mentioned the same thing and said when she turns 18 months old, I can bring her in again to be consulted and see if we need to futher consult a Paed (as we need GP's referral to go to a private Paed).

Reading : Still loves reading. Sometimes when she is bored at home and I can't be bothered to entertain her, she will rummage through her toys and pull out one of her books and sit down with it to read (and if she sees a STAR, she will start "singing" Twinkle Twinkle Little Star with hand gestures. I say "singing" because it's still doesn't make sense as her lyrics consists of baabbaabaabbaaba baba). And after a few rounds of reading, she might bring her book to me and pat my thighs while pushing the book to me to ask me to read to her (usually she wants me to read to her her "In the Night Garden" (ITNG) storybook).

Television : OBSESSED WITH IT! OMG. Every morning after her morning milk (which her dad will make for her before he goes to work), she will run to me (I will be in my bed snoring away) and bug me to switch on the TV for her. I usually ignore her as much as I can, but she is a persistent little person! When I relent and come off the bed, she will lead me to the front of the TV while pointing to it as if asking me to SWITCH IT ON, now. When I switch it on and a song comes on, she will dance infront of the telly - her dance routine is swinging of hands, turning around a few times till dizzy, then clap hands! It's quite funny and I love to see her dance! She can almost memorize the ITNG song-routine, whether the Tittifers (birds) are singing - she will say "Bird" at this time, or if Makka Pakka is singing - she will be clapping her hands while turning round and round, or if it's the start of the show where she will use her index finger to circle the other palm (like how they do so in the show) when the song starts.

Potty-trained : Not yet. I am going to start..... hmmm... maybe next month. (I still haven't bought a potty).

Brushing teeth : Not yet. I am going to start... later.

Sleep : She is sleep-trained. BUT is quite a fussy sleeper. Can only sleep on her cot or our bed but cannot seem to fathom how to do so when she needs to (for example when she is very sleepy in the day, she should just sleep on the sofa? No, she can't. She needs to bug me to put her to bed in her cot).

Climbing stairs : She will do so at any chance when she sees a stairs or an opportunity to climb. She is a late starter in this climbing business (probably only started to climb at 12 MO, since we do not have stairs in the apartment) but she is diligent and very eager to practice when she sees one.

Food : She LOVES to eat BREAD! She will always sign for "mumm mumm" (putting her finger to her mouth) and then walk to the outside of the kitchen (because she has been trained not to go into the kitchen) and tells me "Beed, beed" (meaning bread). She also likes to eat whatever we give her when we go out to the restaurant. Although her appetite has waned a little since her fever last week, it is slowly gaining it back. She now kinda like to eat bland porridge.

Milk : 9oz twice a day and at night 4oz (sometimes skipping the night feed) depending on her mood. She will lie down on the sofa to drink while watching telly during the afternoon feed. I know, what a TV addict!

Hello/Goodbye : Will wave hello or goodbye and give a flying kiss when you ask her (and if she is in the mood to give you one). She will look very sad when her dad goes off to work in the mornings, sometimes only manage to give him a half-wave goodbye. And when daddy comes home (she hears the key on the door) and she will say (not shout) "Baba". If she is watching telly or eating, she will glance at the hubs and smile before turning back to concentrate on the telly or eating.

A neat-freak or an organised-mess? : Unfortunately, she did not take after daddy's tidiness but instead inherited my wonderful organisation of mess. Give her 1 minute and she will re-organise the toys from where it was to a pile of mess on the FLOOR. I have been telling her "Please put things back where they belong" (like how they sing it on Cbeebies), all falling on deaf-ears, I'm afraid. SIGH.

Social skills : Have improved alot, I must say, especially since meeting and being friends with Karmen. Karmen is now on a 3-week holiday with her family but when she was around, Karmen loves to give SW hugs when she sees SW. So whenever SW sees Karmen, they will both acknowledge each other, instead of K trying to give SW a hug and SW running away and screaming. I am very proud of this transition. Will surely bring her to meet more kids later. For example today when she was at the "Park & Farm", she saw another girl (a 4YO) she looked at her and tried to smile at her (the other girl didn't notice SW yet).

Speech development

4 comment(s)
It is so cute now that she can utter a few words : Flower (Fwawa), Book (Bookk) and Owl (OWL, yes the nocturnal bird), amongst them.

Everywhere she goes, anything she sees that resembles a flower, she will point to it saying "Fwawa" - flowers on her dress/mine, flowers in the park, flowers on TV, a photo of a flower, etc etc.

"Fwawa, fwawa", she says, looking at me while I nod approvingly. Then, she stood up and proceeded to stomp on them!

She also understands commands/sentences :
> Do you want nen-nen (milk)?? She will usually nod her head many times and walk towards the kitchen to ENSURE that I make it there and then.
> Do you want biscuit/mum-mum(eat)? (she can understand both) Again, it's a nod to this question.

But there is one command she will conveniently ignore - "NO!" - she can even imitate me doing the "No" (shaking my index finger side-to-side). I find it very funny when she does that!

Sometimes she will "sign" that she wants to eat (mum-mum) by pointing her index finger towards her mouth, sometimes she will say "mum mum", sometimes without it. When I see her doing it, I will usually ask her if she wants to eat/mum-mum. She will nod.

I don't teach her to sign alot (she will do it only if she wants to), but there is a programme on Cbeebies which she likes to watch where they will teach the babies to "sign". I am not sure if she picks up any signing from there, but she watches it intently.

Confessions of a bookworm

7 comment(s)

She really loves her books..

She will read them first thing in the mornings, or when she is bored during the day, and the last thing before going to bed.

This morning she woke up at 6am, I carried her out from her cot and lay her down next to me on my bed. Usually she will read by herself, babbling incessantly along with the pages. Today, she poked me with the book - my eyes almost went blind, my nose mercilessly being hit a few times. She wants me to read her a story. I am not a morning person, certainly not so between 5.00-7.30am (just let me sleep!). I grudgingly took the book (for fear of being blinded) flipped through it and mumbled "Doggy Wooow wooow and Bear Ggrrrrrr were playing ball on the beach" (I always teach her the animals by accompanying the sound that the respective animals make)- I hear her grumbling, as though unhappy. I opened one eye - OOOOPS, the book is upside-down. I flipped back the right side up and continued the story which I now know by heart... she happily responded with every of my word. After 2 pages, I fell back asleep and she left me alone, reading on her own again.

(Her favourite books - "In the Night Garden"'s Makka Pakka Washed Faces & All Aboard the Ninky-Nonk)

Sometimes at night, she will even hug her book to sleep! -_-"

Milestone : Self- Feeding

4 comment(s)
At 12 months, I can definitely see that my baby has a STRONG character. It's not a bad trait to have, although it can baffle me at the same time : "Where did she learn how to do that?".

Take mealtimes for instance : I strap her in her highchair, put on her bib and proceed to try to feed her a spoonful of her lunch. She shakes her head in determination (and refuses to open her mouth): No no no, mummy! No! (That is what I interpret her to be telling me). What this means : "I want to feed myself!" So, I let her hold her spoon, fiddle with her lunch/dinner. Then only will she be willing to let me feed her. The result of me letting her let have a go is a huge mess : food lands up everywhere - floor, on her seat, her clothes, her toes, ME! I don't mind, I believe she needs to learn to master this skill and I do not subscribe to suppressing her (wanting to explore, to learn new experiences) just for MY CONVENIENCE!
(Trying to feed herself - Job well done this time!)

Then of course, are the times where she really DEMANDS things to be done her way. How do I react to her tantrums? I try to contain my anger, I try not to shout at her to stop doing that. But sometimes, I err. I hope she is not picking it up from me :P Anyway, I am still trying to figure this out. They say these little ones are a mirror of what we are to them.

On a lighter note, some of her "demands" are reasonable : Like this morning, she demanded (pointing and taking down her crocs and passed them to me, while uttering "UHH UHH UHH", which i presume was "wear them for me??"). I obliged. She happily wore them around the house like it's her second skin. After a bit, she decides she doesn't want to wear them and sat down and peeled off the strap and... THROW THEM on the spot. I am still trying to work out how to teach her to put things back where they belong. Currently, she does help me out during the evenings when I ask her to help me put things away, but only if I tell her to.

A tiger in our midst?

3 comment(s)
One early morning, I was woken up by a growling, a growl similar to that of a tiger, perhaps?

"Grrrrr grrrr grrrrrr..", the growling persisted. Both my eyes wide opened (it must've been 630am), I turned to my left and found Shean Wenn, sandwiched between us practicing her tiger cub growling. The hubs and I both smiled.

SW has just acquired this new skill and must have been keen to perfect her mastery of it. I usually read to her her animal book - "Monkey (pointing to the picture of the monkey), monkey goes Hoohoohahaha", "Duck, ducky goes quack quack", "Doggy, doggy goes wooow woooow", and so on and so forth.

Then last week when MIL first arrived, she also read and taught her animal noises. The Tiger growl stuck! >

So now,

Us : "SW, What does a tiger do?"
SW : "Grrrrrrr grrrrr grrrrrrr!"

Us : "SW, What does a bear do?"
SW : "Grrrrrrr grrrrr grrrrrrr!"
... uhh, ok.

Us : "SW, What does a duck do?"
SW : "Grrrrrrr grrrrr grrrrrrr!"

Us : "SW, What does a doggy do?"
SW : "Grrrrrrr grrrrr grrrrrrr!"

-x-x-x-x-x-

Saying that, she really has a good association with objects and parts of the body. For example, if you point to a picture of a fish on her book and ask her "What is this?" She will say "Fish". If you ask her where is her Pooh Bear (a soft toy bought by my cousin for SW), she will walk to Pooh Bear and grab him, sometimes passing Pooh Bear to us. If you open a book and ask her where is Elmo? She will point out Elmo to you. She can also identify parts of her body : Head, Nose, Toes.

It was Tobey's 1st Birthday party on Sunday. The weather, extremely glorious sunshine throughout the day. I think Tobey's mom could not ask for more! There was home-cooked food and SW's daddy's favourite bit - BBQ!

Shean Wenn enjoying herself outdoors, and yes, with barenaked feet. As she has outgrown all her "baby shoes", we bought a new pair for her last weekend which is for walking. One day while out with me, she must've kicked it off while I was shopping. So she lost her brand-new shoes. We will search for another one for her next weekend. (We can't allow her to be a walking around with no shoes, can we?)

(SW obviously loving the texture of the grass and enjoying the great outdoors!)

And yes, she can walk now. My little girl started to walk since last week. She loves her new found skills and have been diligently practising whenever she has the chance!

(She having a go during Tobey's opening of pressie)

With daddy and mummy at Tobey's house. Look at the balloons... so colourful and happy.

("Mummy, when is it my turn to have a party with lots of presents??")

Answer : In 2 week's time, darling!
To our dear friends, please look out for the invites in your post.

After the party, we had a dinner appointment at Patrick's luxury apartment. He was cooking for us. We arrived slightly past 6.40pm and was led into the living room by Mrs Patrick. Shean Wenn could not contain her excitement! She was pottering about the room as though she owns the place. She squeeled a few times in delight. I guess she really likes the big spacious hall (his hall is probably more than twice the size of ours!).

Dinner was fabulous and we couldnt wait to get to use the swimming pool next time - Teeheehee!

(This weekend has been great! We had meals at friends' place 3 out of 4 meals. I can get used to this)

About the photo : I had attempted to capture a nice photo of her feet for the longest time (since she was born) but never succeeded. While back in KL and armed with my family's point and shoot camera, I managed to achieve this - also thanks to Shean Wenn co-operating and being a great feet model!

Development

At 7-months, Shean Wenn can :

* Crawl proper (instead of combat-crawling like she used to), 5 days short of her 8th month birthday.

* Move her body from side-to-side when she hears music! Kinda like "dancing".

* Just loves pulling herself to stand at EVERY available chance. Must keep an eye on her else she'll use the rocker/toy/bags as a "stand" to stand. She has not learn the art of "sitting down from standing position" yet, which is why everytime she tires herself after standing for 30-40mins, she'll cry for me to help her out. :P

"See? I can stand now!"

* Eats a full Avent cup of food every meal (twice a day).

* Still has no teeth although she is teething soon. But I do love her without teeth, she just looks too adorable.

Isn't she just adorable without any tooth?

Things she likes :

* Sucking oranges

* Eating mashed avocadoes

* Animals - she smiles/laughs/shrills when she watches and sees her favourite animals come onscreen. But lately I noticed she gets scared if she sees and hears a cow "moo" - she will cry and turn towards me to comfort her.

Statistics
Height : About 63cm
Weight : Roughly about 7.8kg (we never did go back to the Health Visitor to check her weight and development anymore)

The diligent crawler

She woke up early in the mornings,
eyes-bright, legs a-thumping;
She utters nothing,
just huffing and puffing;
As she continues to struggle to move forward..
when infact, she is doing very well backwards!
And when she reaches the end,
she hollers "Can you give me a hand?"!

(I found her in her cot, legs dangling out)

A new step in the next milestone : Crawling!
